Projects:
- Raw Materials Inventory: This
was the original project for which I was hired. The Raw Materials
program was originally written with 4D version 3 on a Mac, and it
used DAL to communicate to a VAX Rdb database. I was hired to
assist an employee with porting the system to a PC using ODBC.
The employee I was supposed to assist was flooded with Y2K work, so
I did the project by myself. I learned the programming
environment, and completed the project in fewer man hours than
professional 4D consultants had quoted.
- Railyard Inventory
Check: This
was another 4D port from Mac to PC. The most interesting
aspect of this project is that it communicated with a handheld Apple
Newton computer. Changes to inventory could be made with the
Newton, then the databases were synchronized when the Newton was
plugged back into the PC.
- Slab Shipment Scheduler:
This was a Visual Basic application designed to feed data to the
inspection and shipping departments. It communicated with Rdb
and Oracle databases. An interesting feature of the project is
that shipment codes were entered with a laser scanner, instead of
being manually typed, in order to lessen human error.
- Slab Mapper Inspection
System: This was the Visual Basic application which
consumed most of my time at Armco/AK. It was a quality control
system designed to help track defects and coordinate
shipments. The aforementioned scheduler informs the inspection
system of what slabs are ready to be inspected, what customer the
slabs are going to, and what the customer's inspection requirements
are. While performing a quality inspection, users utilize a
handheld computer system and can draw defects onto the diagram of the
slabs. Defects recorded are stored in the quality control systems
and are available for customer information systems and intranet reporting.
- ASP Applications:
I developed more than ten ASP applications, most of which were
interactive reports with user-defined queries (date range selection,
etc).
- WinBatch
Applications: I developed several applications or
parts of applications with WinBatch. Most notable was an
installation program for the Raw Materials Inventory program. It
checked a user's Oracle drivers, installed drivers if necessary, made
registry changes, set up ODBC DSN's, pulled necessary files across the
network, and created desktop and Start Menu icons.

Quote |
"After checking with other web-site companies
regarding the cost of site development, I was very pleased to work with
Kevin and end up with such a high quality site at such an affordable
price. Kevin was able to take my vision and turn it into a reality. His
creativity and expertise exceeded my expectations. Many of my guests
tell me they chose my Bed & Breakfast over others due to the quality
of my web site. The site Kevin designed for me paid for itself within
six weeks and has now become a primary source of business for me.
Choosing Kevin to design my web site was one of the smartest business
decisions I've ever made. I highly recommend Kevin's web-site design
skills to anyone interested in increasing their business."
